報告內容:

High sensitive gas sensor is very important in various applications such as lung cancer diagnosis and/or monitoring of ethanol in alcoholic beverages. Conventional conductometric gas sensors based on metal oxides such as SnO2, WO3, Fe2O3, CuO, NiO, and ZnO have been technologically developed due to their small size, low cost, portability, reliability, robustness, and simple operation. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is classified as a semiconductor in group II-IV, whose covalence is on boundary between ionic and covalent semiconductor. On other hand, it is an n-type metal oxide semiconductor sensing material with a wide band gap (Eg=3.37 eV at 300 K) and high exciton binding energy of ~ 60 meV, which allows efficient excitonic emission even at room temperature, has been under extensive research owing to its highly chemical stability, low cost, and good flexibility in fabrication. Our recent studies focus on the advanced nanostructures for gas sensor applications. We aimed to understand the correlation between the crystal size, defect level and gas sensing properties of materials. Results pointed out that the increase in thermal decomposition temperature led to an increase in crystal size but the sample treated at 600 oC showed the highest response. The correlation between the material characteristics and gas sensing properties were clarified mainly by the defect level and crystal size
